USA Archery – Junior Olympic Archery Development Program
What is JOAD
The Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program is a nationwide initiative established by USA Archery, the governing body for the sport in the United States. Designed for young archers aged 8 to 20, JOAD provides a structured environment to help participants improve their skills, whether they’re just starting out or have years of experience.
Why JOAD?
JOAD is about more than just learning to shoot a bow—it’s about personal growth. The program covers key aspects of archery, including proper shooting form, equipment maintenance, and mental focus. As participants progress, they can earn achievement awards and challenge themselves by competing in local, regional, and national tournaments organized by USA Archery.
How Does JOAD Work?
At Midlands Archery Center, our JOAD program is led by certified USA Archery instructors who tailor their coaching to each archer’s skill level. The program emphasizes personal development in a supportive and inclusive environment, helping young archers build confidence, patience, and focus. JOAD is an excellent way for youth to immerse themselves in the sport while connecting with a community of fellow archers.
3-D Archery
Midlands Archery Center offers 3-D archery for adults and students through the Archery Shooters Association (ASA) and Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA). These programs are designed to offer a hands-on experience in 3-D archery, where participants shoot at life-like animal targets in a natural setting. 3-D archery emphasizes not only skill development but also sportsmanship, ethics, and conservation.
At Midlands Archery Center, shooters are guided by experienced instructors who help them hone their shooting techniques, learn about bowhunting, and compete in local and national 3-D archery tournaments, all while fostering a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
